Town Councilmembers Must Live Within the Town of Parker
Under Colorado law and the Town of Parker’s charter requirements, individuals serving on Town Council must be residents of the Town of Parker. Councilmembers are elected to represent the community they live in, and maintaining residency is a requirement to serve.

Town Council Does Not Choose Which Businesses Open in Parker
Parker operates within a free-market system. Town Council does not have the authority to simply choose which businesses can or cannot open based on personal preference. Businesses that meet the Town’s zoning requirements, development standards, and applicable regulations have the right to apply for approval.
As elected officials, we can establish standards for how development occurs, but we cannot arbitrarily decide which businesses are allowed to exist.

Responsible Growth Requires Understanding the Law
As Parker grows, many residents understandably want a voice in what comes to our community. I share that commitment to protecting Parker’s character, but local government must also follow the laws that govern property rights and zoning.
Much of Parker’s land was zoned decades ago, and when a property is approved for a specific use, the Town cannot simply change the rules or tell a property owner they cannot use their land as legally allowed. Responsible growth requires balancing the rights of property owners with the community’s desire to preserve Parker’s unique character. As elected officials, our role is to make thoughtful decisions within the authority we have while protecting the future of the community we all love.

We Took Action to Address Car Washes and Gas Stations
The claim that Town Council has done nothing to address the growth of car washes and gas stations is simply not true. After listening to residents’ concerns, I worked with fellow Councilmembers to strengthen Parker’s regulations and put additional restrictions in place to help slow the overconcentration of these businesses.
While the Town cannot legally ban a business that meets zoning and development requirements, we can (and DID) change the standards to better protect Parker’s character and ensure future development reflects our community’s expectations.
